KS3 Club - Sew & Solve

After-School Club (KS3)

Sewing meets problem-solving in this creative, maths-infused club designed for Key Stage 3 students.

Sew and Solve is a unique after-school experience where students develop practical sewing skills while applying key concepts from Key Stage 3 Mathematics in a fun and meaningful way.

Each session runs from 3:30pm to 5:00pm and combines short, focused maths activities with hands-on sewing projects. Students will learn to measure accurately, calculate dimensions, explore shape and symmetry, and scale patterns; building confidence in both numeracy and creativity.

Throughout the term, learners will create a range of items such as pouches, patchwork pieces, and a final to project, all planned and constructed using their own measurements and calculations.

What students will gain:

  • Confidence using measurements, units, and calculations
  • Understanding of ratio, scale, and basic formulas in real contexts
  • Improved problem-solving and logical thinking skills
  • Practical sewing techniques and project completion skills

Students will also keep a logbook, recording their ideas, measurements, and reflections, helping to reinforce learning and track progress.

What’s included:

  • All fabrics and sewing materials
  • Use of sewing machines and equipment
  • Step-by-step guidance in a small group setting
  • A completed set of handmade projects to take home

Class size: Maximum of 6 students to ensure individual support
